Sudbury Crane Operator Classes - For the supervisors and the operators, current and new, the crane operator training course is suitable for all. Course content addresses applicable state, federal and provincial safety regulations. The training's first component consists of comprehensive in-class lessons and exam. Following that is a customized hands-on session with practical lessons and assessment.
The content of the course applies to all types and categories of overhead lifting crane devices. The instruction would specifically focus on all aspects of crane operation which can be done at the workplace of the trainee. Upon completing the course, individuals training would learn how to operate specific overhead lifting devices, attachments and related parts efficiently and safely.
The purpose of the operator course is to identify any potentially dangerous habits which an operator may develop while operating an overhead crane. Costly damage to products and equipment could be prevented with proper habits. Training lessens the likelihood of a workplace incident or injury taking place.
The length of the course is eight hours of classroom instruction followed by a few hours of on-site, hands-on, customized training. Participants would be graded on their understanding of training material via an evaluation of their practical knowledge and written tests. The minimum acceptable score is 80 percent.
In the in-class session, participants will learn applicable causes of damages and occurrences, guidelines and legislation, danger awareness, internal responsibility, design principles and basic equipment, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, safe hosting/operating methods, pre-shift equipment inspections, equipment applications/rigging, types of hardware, angles and hitches, pedestrian/operator safety, hand signals for slingers and operators, flipping/turning loads safely.
The customized practical training and evaluation session should be pre-scheduled. It will be held at the trainees' facility after completion of the in-class session. The duration of this practical training component is an hour or two. Two operators at a time would be trained by the instructor on skills like planning the lift, correct rigging practices and safe operation.
Upon completion of the practical operating instruction and evaluation and the in-class instruction, the trainee will write a test. Signed safety rules will be required from each and every participant. Individual wallet certificates would be given to trainees who are successful. A framed wall certificate would be provided to the company.
